The CIC (Information and Coordination Center) in Abomey-Calavi, Benin, is a critical hub for the West African electricity network, enabling the integration of national power systems into a unified regional electricity market. Financed by the EU under the Global Gateway initiative as a flagship project in 2023, this centre will ultimately serve as the regional market system operator, coordinating power exchanges, monitoring electrical flows, and addressing imbalances to ensure reliable and affordable energy across ECOWAS (Economic Community of West African States) nations and beyond. At the heart of regional integration dynamics, the CIC’s state-of-the-art control room allows real-time monitoring of production, availability, and trade among ECOWAS member countries, making it an essential element for both energy security and efficiency. In addition to the advanced technical infrastructure, the facility also houses the offices of the WAPP General Secretariat, underscoring its central role in coordinating and supporting the regional electricity market.
