Global Gateway is the European strategy to boost smart, clean and secure links in digital, energy and transport sectors, and to strengthen health, education and research systems across the world. Global Gateway aims to mobilise up to €300 billion in investments.
The centrepiece of Global Gateway in Cameroon is the Logone Bridge Project in the Far North region of the country. A 1.5 hour flight away from the capital, Yaoundé, and a further four-hour drive, this bridge is part of the Libreville – N'djamena Strategic corridor, crossing the Cameroon-Chad border. The reportage also features images of a wide range of Global Gateway projects in the direct area of the bridge with a human centric focus, such as the city's hospital, a neighbourhood health centre, primary schools, a reforestation site and an EU-supported training centre in Bongor (Chad).
In Yaoundé the Nachtigal Hydroelectric Dam construction site, is one of the largest Team Europe led infrastructure projects in Sub-Saharan Africa. This will supply 30% of Cameroon's total electricity needs once operational. In the city, the planned route for the Yaoundé Rapid Bus Transit Line will bring a great benefit for the city which currently suffers greatly from huge traffic congestion.
