Accession of Portugal to the European Communities
The 1st of January 2026 marks the 40th anniversary of the accession of Portugal to the European Communities. The Treaty of Accession was signed on the 12th of June 1985 in Lisbon, and on the 1st of January 1986 the accession became effective.
