Brussels European Council, 29-30/03/1985
The European Council of Brussels took place under the presidency of Bettino Craxi, Italian Prime Minister, with the participation of Heads of State and Government and the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Member States.The Council opened with an atmosphere of satisfaction because of the political agreement on the accession of Spain and Portugal. Conclusions were also adopted on the economic and social situation, on the reinforcement of the technological base and of the competitiveness of the community industry and on the environment. On the subject of growth and employment, an agreement was reached on four types of action suggested by the CEC. Lastly, the Council underlined the need to pursue efforts in the fight against famine and discussed certain foreign affairs questions.
