The signing of the accession treaty of Spain to the EC took place in Madrid during a ceremony at the Royal Palace. The signing is the culmination of eight years of conciliation. The dignitaries representing Spain were Juan Carlos, King of Spain; Felipe González, Spanish Prime Minister; Fernando Morán López, Spanish Minister for Foreign Affairs, and Manuel Marín, Spanish Secretary of State for Relations with the EEC.
