On 19 March 2026, Michael McGrath, European Commissioner for Democracy, Justice, the Rule of Law, and Consumer Protection, went to Liege, Belgium, to visit the customs department at the airport. The airport of Liege is not only an airline service transporting passengers from one country to another, it is also a large cargo airport where goods are distributed across Europe. Michael McGrath wanted to see how the consumer protection rules were implemented at a large logistics hubs, ensuring customs enforcement and consumer safety. Michael McGrath was accompanied by Cécile Neven, Minister for Energy, Air Quality, Climate, Housing and Airports of the Walloon Government, and Mieke Walraevens, Director-General of the Belgian Federal Public Service for Public Health, Food Chain Safety and the Environment.This video shows the on-site visit to the customs department.
