Press statement by Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, and Henna Virkkunen, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission, on the digital age verification app
On 15 April 2026, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, and Henna Virkkunen, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission for Tech Sovereignty, Security and Democracy, gave a press statement on the digital age verification app. Thanks to ‘zero-knowledge proof’ technology, this app allows users to verify that they are of legal age without sharing any personally identifiable information, thereby ensuring user anonymity. Already adopted by seven pilot countries, this solution aims to harmonise security standards across the EU, whilst imposing strict child protection requirements on digital platforms via the Digital Services Act (DSA).
