Visit of Ursula von de Leyen, President of the European Commission, to Australia
From 23 to 25 March 2026, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, went to Canberra, Australia, to strengthen relations between the European Union and Australia. The visit marked the adoption of a security and defence partnership, the conclusion of negotiations on a free trade agreement and the launch of discussions on Australia’s association with the Horizon Europe programme. The President met with Anthony Albanese, Australian Prime Minister, and addressed the Australian Parliament. She also took part in discussions with representatives from the business and industrial sectors. These developments aim to strengthen cooperation and competitiveness between the two partners.
