On 1 december 2021, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, Olivér Várhelyi, European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and  December 2021, Enlargement, and Jutta Urpilainen, European Commissioner for International Partnerships, gave a press conference on the Global Gateway, the new European Strategy to boost smart, clean and secure links in digital, energy and transport and strengthen health, education and research systems across the world.
